Movie Review: Mamma Mia

I’ve not had the opportunity to watch Mamma Mia on stage, although I was in London three times for my holidays. Yes I did watch some other musical show but it was not that satisfying. So, when the movie on Mamma Mia was out recently, I told myself that I must watch it! Last Tuesday, we (four of us) went to watch the movie and I have to say, I LOVE it and enjoyed this movie because it was so much fun.
I think Meryl Streep was fantastic…she sang so well and it really brought across her emotion during all the songs she sang. Her character as Donna is really refreshing, and I could not imagine anyone else playing the role of Donna. However Pierce Brosnan was really out! He was so macho (remember him in 007) but he couldn’t really sing or carry out the tune. (What a pity!)
Overall the whole casts including the producers did a good job, they are able to ‘let go’ and have fun… and I guess we as the audience should also do the same while watching the movie. I had a feeling that some ‘guys’ out there may say ‘Wake me up when the shows end” – but I could challenge you that it would not be the same when the music is played during the movie…
I guess this is what the movie was all about! Fun and fun and fun! I can’t wait to see the live musical show of Mamma Mia in Istana Budaya this coming December! Ahhh…just like the CATS, musical show! How exciting!
P/s: This is one of the missing posting (2nd October) which I’m able to retrieve!
Lust, Caution by Eileen Chang
I’m not really a big fan of Literature book especially Chinese Literature, because I don’t have the patience to read them, but somehow I picked up this book Lust, Caution by Eileen Chang about a couple of weeks ago and decided that I wanted to read it because I know Ang Lee, the Academy winner Director had made a movie from this book.
Lust, Caution has been translated into English by Julia Lovell and few others and published by Penguin. The funny thing is when I bought the book, I didn’t realised that it actually contain few short stories… hahaha…silly me! So, actually I have the opportunity to read more than one stories from a single buy.
Lust, Caution was written by Chinese writer Eileen Chang, and was first published in 1979. The stories is set in Shanghai during the WWII and involved a young and attractive girl (the heroin) Jiazi who belongs to a university drama troupe. She was assigned to assassinate a powerful political figure who works for the Japanese occupational government, Mr Yi. I would have to say, this stories was quite easy to read although it has a lot of wandering thoughts from Jiazi’s characters to make sense of the complicated plot. Mr Yi’s characters at the end of the stories revealed his disappointment, anger, regret, frustration and love. Oww, what a mixed feelings!
David Cook
I love good music and I fully respect those who can sing live and taking risk + creative on stage and once again American Idol has produced true musician and a great performer, David Cook!
I’m so happy that David Cook won! The truth is, when I saw him performing the song ‘Hello by Lionel Richie’ in Top 16 – I had this feeling that he will be in the top 5 – he arranged the song in emo style (emo= is a style of rock music which describes several independent variations of music with common stylistic roots) and it was brilliant.
And when he sang ‘Billie Jean by Michael Jackson’ and ‘Always Be My Baby by Mariah Carey’ – it was superb! And there are many other songs too. If you have time, try check out YouTube – there are plenty of his videos in YouTube.
Anime: Vampire Knight

I thought I would have a nice weekend, relaxing at home…boy! I was wrong. My friend, ‘JT’ downloaded a new Anime for me. She said, I hope you’ll like them as much as I do. I copied KKM Ep1 -5 for her and she gave me 5 new episode of Vampire Knight. Well, JT you are definitely right! I’m hooked after just watching the first episode!
Vampire Knight is a beautiful and blood-thrilling manga by Hino Matsuri. The artwork, the drawing, colours and the storyline of this mange is absolutely stunning. I would have to say, the anime and the manga artwork are not much difference which is quite impress.
With the stories on mysterious, secrets, loves, betrayal and of course not forgetting bishies among the vampires! This is a must watch or highly recommended from me. (hey, I don’t usually promote anime!)

korean drama: bad love
I’m currently watching this KBS’s melodrama Bad Love - starring Kwon Sang Woo, Lee Yeo Won, Kim Seung Soo and few others. I love the casts and the storyline was ’okay’ at first but eventually after watching it at 7 or 8 episodes, I found myself dragging my mood to watch this k-drama.
It’s just too cheesy, not making sense, where on earth that you’ll find so many coincidences of characters entangled with each other. I’m still quite surprise with the scripts writer of this drama – they should have thought about ‘Coffee Prince’ which was aired couple of months ago before writing this, ‘Coffee Prince’ scripts are much more sensible in today society.
Russell Peters…
I was introduced to Russell Peters (Stand up comedian) few years ago and since then, I’m hooked on him. I’ve never fail to look for him (well, video of course) in YouTube. I can say that most of the video clips of his show; especially part of the live show in the YouTube has been screened through by me!! Of course I’ve also seen some of his complete video as well…
I remembered the first show that I watched was “Be a Man” – where he talks about the stereotypes among the Asian community – it’s just so funny especially when he imitate Chinese! Well, you know…me being a Chinese and the stereotype about us being money-minded is sooooo true!!
